The first time our founder truly smelled agarwood was in an old tea room. The host produced an unremarkable little block of wood and warmed it over indirect heat — no smoke, only a faint thread of cool sweetness that slowly settled the noise of the whole room.
In that moment he understood: this is not "a scent," this is the smell of time itself. A piece of agarwood spends decades being wounded, forming resin, maturing; a person needs only one quiet afternoon to breathe it in. An unequal exchange — extravagant, and moving.
The deeper we went, the more we saw the illness: synthetic scent posing as natural, white wood pressed with oil posing as sinking-grade, origins invented, certificates printed at will. Prices climbed; trust thinned. Genuine agarwood became the thing no one dared believe.
GUYUN's remedy is a plain one: write down the origin of every piece, in black and white. Origin, batch, formation method, year, grade, issuing authority — all committed to paper, all committed to a number. Checkable, verifiable, accountable.
This is "the number is the name": the serial is not a stock code but the identity of a piece — its name in this world.
Every GUYUN incense stick takes at least ninety days from material to finished piece: selecting, cutting, grinding, blending, curing, releasing — each step named, standardised, owned. The trade ships in seven days; we take ninety, not for ceremony, but because the powder needs time to "settle" — the raw edge fades, and the true note emerges.
Today GUYUN has five registers, artisans, grading partners, and guests willing to slow down. But the thing it wants to do has never changed —
to let everyone who takes fragrance seriously meet a genuine piece of agarwood, with peace of mind. Whether you begin with one entry-level stick or come for a piece of heirloom old stock, GUYUN promises the same thing: an origin, a name, a commitment.
